What's in a domain name?

You need a domain, or rather your business does. There are aspects to consider that elude you, so here is some insight.

We have registered probably well over a thousand domain names for a myriad of clients. In the early days of the internet there was a "land rush" for domain names, and some people set up "domain farms". Those are places and companies that spend all day snapping up names, and turning them around for sale. That avenue is available of course, and may be appropriate if it pertains to a brand or trademark or even product name.

However you can get creative, and may even get a bit lucky. There are many extensions now available, like .ca, .info. .biz, .me and so on. In the near future there may be (and probably will be) a major overhaul of how domain names and their extensions work, but for now keep looking.

You can travel to many sites to check the availability of the name, and you can do so on www.gooru.ca as well. Don't jump to quick though as there is some other aspects to consider. SEO plays a very large roll here. We have begun to rely very heavily on our SEO team to advise on many more aspects of Web Building, in fact now we bring in the SEO team as we are building foundation.

SEO matters in relation to your domain name, Having the same name of course would be best but you must search the other extensions to ensure competitors or others do not have the exact same name. This may be sending clients to the wrong site and causing confusion. Get unique but stay in context.

eg:

yourdomain.com

check also and reserve

yourdomain.ca

yourdomain.net

yourdomain.info

etc….
